A good office chair must have several important design features. Most people think a soft cushion for their bottom is the most important part of an office chair. Actually the most important designed feature of office chairs used on a regular basis by workers is adjustable lumbar support. We have a tendency to right ourselves throughout the day by pressing on our office chair armrests. This constant motion to slide ourselves upright results in undue stress of on our shoulders and chest muscles.
Obviously the purpose of office chair armrests is not to continually lift our body. A firm well adjusted lumbar support in the back of an office chair will keep our body straight and reduce the need to push off from the armrests. The incorporation of ergonomic design elements into conventional office chairs has resulted in office furniture one can comfortably sit in for several hours at a stretch or shall we say, without a stretch.
