Study desk features carefully before you buy

May 16th, 2010

When purchasing a computer desk for your home or office take a good look at that piece of furniture before you choose to buy it. Many computer desks available today were designed for equipment that no longer exists. Specifically we’re referring to computer monitors using large deep cathode ray tubes. Because of this computer desks had special shelves built in and were far deeper than they needed to be.

A recent sampling of computer office desks for sale in the United Kingdom reveals that fully 30% of all items for sale are over five years old and consequently completely unsuitable for today’s computer. The primary difference in requirement is that we are now using flat screen LCD Computer monitors that take up very little space. The same monitors are also much larger in diameter. Hence we need a wider computer desk with no superstructure attached to it. This allows us to set the larger monitor back further and supports a gentler line of sight angle.

Choosing a desk to match newer computer designs

May 16th, 2010

A nice home computer desk can be purchased online for as little as 100 pounds. And that price usually includes free shipping to anywhere in the mainland United Kingdom. Of course you can pay a little less or a great deal more depending on the quality and style you choose. An excellent choice is a computer desk designed to fit into the corner of your home. When purchased in a matching color or style to that of your décor a corner computer desk actually creates the effect of an entire home office.

When purchasing computer desks it is important to remember that most PCs in use today do not have a deep cathode ray type monitor. As such any office desk you purchase will no longer need the huge width and superstructure built to accommodate a small but deep TV screen. Many computer desks come with a slide out keyboard shelf. Use of the shelf is of course a manner personal preference. The latest trend favors adjustable height of the desk as opposed to the use of the keyboard shelf.

New form and function in metal file storage units

May 15th, 2010

When Henry Ford was first making his model T automobile he was often quoted as saying you can have any color you want as long as it’s black. For a very long time this same idea and philosophy also applied to vertical metal filing cabinets. They were available in an almost military gray colour with virtually no other options. Eventually medium tan was added to the range.

Today that same boring metal filing cabinet has evolved to exist in a variety of forms. There are the traditional two, three and four drawer vertical cabinets which if one wishes can still be bought in gray. But also available are stylish lateral filing cabinets made in metal, wood or a combination of both and modular wooden filing cabinets designed to exactly match other office décor. Lateral filing cabinets differ from vertical in that they still store the files upright in a row but the height of the vertical filing cabinet is replaced by the extended width of the lateral model.

Updating aging office file storage furniture

May 15th, 2010

Is your office still filled with obsolete filing cabinets? There probably is not much in the way of office furniture that is as sturdy as a painted steel construction filing cabinet. Businesses tend to use these for decades before deciding to replace them. Unfortunately, even these dependable office furniture pieces can wear out. At some point all of our filing cabinet drawers no longer slide easily and may not support the weight of a full drawer when completely extended. This leaves the buyer with several options. The first is to simply replace your 2, 3 or 4 drawer filing cabinet with an identical twin.

This is simple enough to do as all of the original styles are still being manufactured including those with sturdy four tumbler locks and insulated double walled construction. In fact, many metal filing cabinets are strong enough to serve as ersatz safes. Features to look for in filing cabinets are quality nylon guides and roller bearings. Cheaper grades of filing cabinets are often built using only slides and rails.
Prior to the invention of the filing cabinet in the late 1800s records were stored in row upon row of small cubicles built next to walls. This hardly allowed for security or a large volume of storage. Furthermore, what was one do when more storage was needed, build another wall?

Designer furniture may not have a notable name

May 15th, 2010

Designer office furniture does not necessarily bear the emblem of Tommy Hilfiger or Coco Channel. Designer office furniture is actually more of an idea than a name. Most office furniture is divided into a simple grading system. Quality is determined by such simple measures as desktop thickness and material used for chair coverings. So what then marks designer office chairs and desks as been superior? When a major designer puts his or her name on an item such as a pair of sunglasses, those items are almost universally created using higher quality ingredients.

Designer office furniture is built with that the same thought in mind. Only the best materials are used for this construction. A pair of designer jeans will use the highest grade denim in its manufacture. Likewise the designer office chair will be sewn using only the best matching hides. Bear in mind that quality office furniture does not have to have a designer label, but the standards set forth by the world’s top designers tend to be in the direction of better grade office furniture.

Creating an inviting environment in your home computer workstation

December 3rd, 2009

When shopping for home computer furniture, one must always consider that the relative space available inside a home is far less than that in a working office. Consider the space available in even the smallest office or cubicle. An 8 foot by 8 foot cubicle can easily accommodate a 4 foot by 6 foot office desk.

And, because computer furniture is built with an attached superstructure, that same small amount of space made available within the cubicle still allows for a reasonable amount of movement. Yet when we attempt to place the same desk in a corner of an existing room of our home we quickly discover that it is hard to hide an elephant anywhere. For this reason there exists specially designed home computer furniture. These are usually created with a lesser depth and a superstructure specifically built to accommodate the amenities one uses when working from home such as reference books and personal computer printers.

What is making glass office furniture more viable now than ever before?

December 3rd, 2009

If you are wondering why glass office furniture is only now reaching a height of popularity, consider that only within the last 10 years has localized delivery throughout the United Kingdom expanded to the point where large heavy items such as glass desktops can be safely shipped throughout the mainland UK. Simple shipping devices that we take for granted such as molded Styrofoam packing materials did not exist as recently as 30 years ago.

When coupled with simple improvements such as smoother roads and more complete highway access to remote areas too, we can see why glass office furniture items were somewhat scarce. Another reason that these items have increased drastically in demand is that, as we enter the information technology age, we use far fewer paper documents. The result of this is that we no longer need the prerequisite file drawers attached to every desk. This makes possible the more artistic design usage of a simple large oval or kidney shaped glass desktop set on either a hardwood or metal frame.

The Internet is making furniture upgrades for offices easier

December 3rd, 2009

Of all the areas one may expect to save money when purchasing furniture office desks and chairs are probably the most available. Well, as with most online purchases value it is hindered by geographic location of the supplier to the buyer when purchased within a reasonable radius or in a limited range, even large items such as executive office desks and chairs can be purchased at great savings in shops on the Internet. A perfect example of such a limited region would be United Kingdom where most purveyors of goods from the Internet arrange for free delivery within 48 hours of all kinds of furniture office styles being among them. These virtual office furniture stores do exist with very small overhead costs due to not needing retail showrooms, extensive warehousing, and a force of salaried employees.

Another great advantage to purchasing office furniture online is that you are given a far more competitive assortment to choose from. When sellers know that you can very easily visit another store within seconds simply by using a click of your mouse, they tend to put their best price forward from the start. As a consequence, we as buyers are not at risk to be tricked into paying too much by a game playing salesperson.

The relevance of cabinets for paper file storage in modern offices

December 3rd, 2009

Many people are under the impression that filing cabinets are no longer needed in the office workplace. While their use has certainly changed over the last 30 years, the need for secure document storage has actually increased. In the area of legal matters, paper copies of transaction documents are still required throughout the world. This leads to a situation where sensitive financial and personal records must be secured so as to protect against a potential liability.

So, while we may not have the demand for antique oak filing cabinets, we do have need of metal fireproof cabinets that double as safes for both documents and valuables. Of course the varieties of these have changed drastically and the common fur drawer upright style has been replaced by waist high easy access cabinets. Most of these are also created so as to serve double duty as storage beneath with a footprint for a computer printer on the top.

The look of today’s executive office suite

December 3rd, 2009

The complete executive office furniture suite now includes such essential ingredients as a recliner, a meeting table and of course the prerequisite executive desk and accompanying leather chair. While all of these components have existed for many years separately, only now are they being designed and utilized specifically for the office.

Take for example what was always a large rectangular wooden office desk. More often than not this had been replaced by a kidney shaped glass or Formica topped desk that emphasized shared movement so as to better facilitate pivoting from one computer WorkStation to another. With so many presentations being made on a one on one basis, a simple round table used to pass ideas back and forth on has become an important part of executive office furniture. In contrast, during meeting downtime, small compact recliners seem to be fitted into every management office so as to allow the highly productive catnap.

High reliability from online office furniture supply firms

November 24th, 2009

If you’re not happy with your office furniture supplier, perhaps you should take a look at options available for fine quality office furniture on the Internet. You might be amazed to discover that not only are high quality items such as leather office chairs and solid wood executive office desks available through online stores, but that all of these items and more can be purchased online at a considerable discount. While we are loathe to use the word cheap to describe any item for sale, the reality remains that quality highly desired furniture for the office including specialty items such as filing cabinets and lawyers bookcases can be purchased online from reputable merchants at a fraction of the cost of an equal item in a retail store.

And should one have concerns that the online office furniture supplier is not reputable or at least dependable as the longstanding shop in their city, consider that virtual stores are held in the public eye to a large degree. Any merchants selling items on the Internet who do not overwhelmingly satisfy their customers are shortly labeled as such all across their online sales forum. Those same advantages that allow one to establish themselves as an honest and reputable merchant online allow the dissatisfied customer to make note and warn others of a particular virtual store’s lack of reliability.

Changing trends in office furniture retailer sales approach

November 24th, 2009

Office furniture suppliers all across the United Kingdom have recently been shuttering their longstanding retail establishments in favor of creation of website marketplaces. These new virtual stores allow for creation of direct to buyer from the manufacturer sales. In fact, the best of these office furniture suppliers have developed relationships with the finest manufacturers of furniture in all of the UK. These establish relationships allow them to purchase fine quality office furniture at low prices and pass those low prices on to you the end user consumer.

A further advantage is that the virtual store requires no showroom, commissioned sales person or warehousing. All of these things are factors that led to the cost of your purchase. While some might feel that without personally inspecting their purchase, they are at a disadvantage this notion is countered by the readily available reviews of not only office furniture, but also any product and service for sale through the Internet. A recent computer report reveals that fully 95% of all online purchasers of executive office desks and chairs were completely satisfied with their purchase. This is interesting contrast to a 70% approval rate from customers of conventional office supply companies.

Freeing up space in your working environment

November 24th, 2009

99% of the work in our office is done on a computer, but somehow we managed to never have enough office shelving. Between trying to find places to lay basic hard copies of documents and needing storage for equipment and supplies, we often find ourselves without any room for paper files, folders and the occasional personal item. In our offices we would like to be able to scatter about a few personal items but desk spaces for the most part are always cluttered with notes and lists along with computer equipment. The footprint required for even the smallest of these can quickly fill up all of the available space on one’s desk. Thus we are always on the lookout for quality office shelving that meets our special criteria. Those needs being depth and the ability to hold substantial weight.

By shopping online, we have been able to find exactly the office shelving we require. These are freestanding units built as bookcases, each of the depth of 18 inches so as to support legal size documents. They are also built so substantially as to allow us to place approximately 50 pounds of weight spread over each shelf. Had we required greater weight bearing ability, we could have opted for steel shelving which is found online in a great range of style and price.

Matching furniture pieces for the interior of your office

November 24th, 2009

When choosing elements for office interiors, one must always trying to strike a balance between obviously needed office furniture and artistic design. This thought holds especially true when choosing office décor styles. One might not want to hang a Picasso print in a legal office filled with oak arts and crafts furniture. In reverse, a super high tech software development company will be looking to decorate their space with powerful graphically exciting photography. One’s corporate image is determined from a large part by products and services they offer.

Another important factor when designing office interiors is the overall function required of the space and furniture. An architectural firm probably does not have a great need for huge walnut executive office desks. Whereas an animation company is probably looking for the traditional draughtsman’s table and chair combination that can be placed in any corner of the manager’s office or in an office landscape scenario. Even such basic elements as flooring factor into the equation of form and function for the office. When one needs to scoot around on casters from point to point, heavy carpeting is of no assistance. Yet that same plush pile might be a requirement in cavernous areas where sound needs to be muffled.

Searching for super deals on office furniture

November 24th, 2009

You don’t have to shop through Craigslist or go to eBay to find great deals on office furniture for sale. All you need to do is run a search engine check using the words office furniture and you will be rewarded with an almost endless list of reputable Internet merchants who specialize in direct to you shipping of low priced quality office furniture. Don’t waste time looking at used junk when, for less than the price of someone else’s throwaways, you can buy brand new sturdy and stylish office desks, office chairs and bookcases.

If you know exactly the type of item you are looking for, you can even start and end your search by keying in that term. Almost every online seller has office furniture for sale at prices around 40% less than that of conventional furniture stores. Remember, online stores don’t have salesmen that work on commission and whose sole objective is to sell you an item at as close to full retail price as is possible. Also don’t forget that your time is valuable as well. You can quickly and easily shop for any type of office supplies and furniture on the Internet without ever using a minute of your time or a drop of petrol.

Styling in the contemporary executive office

November 23rd, 2009

Modern executive furniture seems to fall into two categories. It seems people are either looking for prestige or function. Most people involved in the information technology field tend to invest in executive furniture based upon its function. Although if there is a particular style preferred by the high tech exec, it is flowing with plenty of curves and a definitive “Jetsons” feel.

Obviously the executive furniture used for a massive law firm will continue to be purchased based upon its rich look that implies solidity and trust. Hence, attorneys will not be abandoning mahogany and walnut furniture anytime soon. This same premise also applies to executive chairs, as black and brown leather office chairs continue to be popular with the old money set and we baby boomers involved in anything related to technology marketing are always looking for the most comfort of an ergonomic chair. Another interesting comparison of the preference for those involved in information technology as opposed to those in somewhat antique professions is the use of cabinetry. Those in younger thinking want a printer stand that rolls and requires a very small footprint, whereas the contrast for legal offices is a preference to hide machinery and supplies.

Shipping is the first point to examine when searching online for furniture

November 23rd, 2009

When attempting to find quality office furniture online there is one consideration that must actually be looked into first. Even before you choose colors and shapes, you need to look into shipping. It doesn’t do you any good to find a great deal on a mahogany veneer executive office desk if after calculating shipping from the seller in one part of the country you find out that the cost of getting the peace delivered is more than the cost of purchase.

Any time you can find a supplier online who is within 300 miles of your location, your purchase of a large item such as an office desk is far more feasible. Perhaps this is why in countries such as the United Kingdom, sales of large items such as office desks and even bathroom fixtures are easily purchased at and deliver from online stores. Almost every quality seller of office furniture online has factored a means for efficient and inexpensive shipping into their business plan. In fact, one could go as far to say that if a seller cannot tell you exactly how much shipping will cost and exactly how long delivery will take, you should positively take your business elsewhere.

The rapidly evolving shape of office chairs

November 23rd, 2009

Have you recently noticed that when it comes to office furniture chairs have changed drastically? No longer do we see the simple oak hard bottom swivel chair as a mainstay for worker seating. What one is more likely to see at a WorkStation is a high backed mesh office chair with adjustable arm rests and a hydraulic height adjustment. Today’s office chair has been designed so that a worker can remain seated comfortably for 3 to 4 hours at a stretch. This is extremely important because so many workers, such as those in full support are tied to their station by an endless stream of phone and ticket requests.

Of course now that office landscape is the mainstream planning technique used in businesses such as those offering support, operator chairs must be sturdy and still compact. In the world of office furniture chairs must have adjustable height, lumbar support, and cushioning set at specific levels of firmness. To purchase a quality heavy duty office chair that meets all of these qualifications one should expect to pay from one to two hundred dollars.

Don’t settle for furniture that isn’t computer ready in your office

November 23rd, 2009

My wife has a very nice piece of furniture is expressly built for her computer and printer. It has a superstructure that allows for books to be placed in shell fashion underneath and for the printer to sit up on top. This piece was originally built around 10 years ago and as such is designed with enough depth to and it allows use of an old cathode ray type of computer monitor. Now that we have purchased a nice desktop computer with a slim line monitor, this piece of office computer furniture is even more helpful as more desk space is free for taking notes.

My point is that in order for a piece of office furniture to be effective and useful in today’s work environment it really needs to have been built with computer technology in mind. To begin with, older desks are not built to accommodate the many tables required for computing. The modern computer desk should have rounded corners for safety, no file doors to get in the way. It should easily accommodate connection to printers, routers and LAN cables. Before you go out and buy just another rectangular office desk, take a look at modern round cornered desk designs that are built to let you work for longer periods of time at your computer.

Finding a balance of style and sturdiness for shelving your books

November 23rd, 2009

When purchasing office bookcases, the primary consideration should always be whether or not the furniture you find can support the weight you plan to place it on its shelves. One of the reasons that lawyer’s stack bookcases remain so popular through the years is that their design and construction which essentially builds a level upon a level allowing for double for strength so to speak permits one to place extremely heavy books on each shelf.

In the case of the legal profession these books are generally thick volumes of statutes and case law. Beyond that profession, for the most part, office bookcases are primarily used ornamentally. To that end, most sellers of office furniture stock bookcases for the office that generically blend with all of the many types of desks and chairs now being sold. Obviously a glass and steel bookcase filled with a few books and an assortment of knick knacks can find its place among the executive office suites large rectangular mahogany desk. They should also bear in mind that one of the major purposes of a bookcase is not so much to hold the books we read as to display the books we have read, or perhaps even to show off books we would like people to think we have read. In either situation, bookcases for the home or office continue to be a popular design element.

The executive desk as recreated by the information technology era

November 22nd, 2009

One supposes that the first executive desks were the famous and historical Bureaus de Platte built from the time of Louis the 15th. And amazingly those same Louis the 15th style desks are still somewhat popular in feminine offices and offices of businesses where an almost gaudy presence is expected. Executive desks certainly run the full gamut of style ranges from staunch and stodgy to clean and high tech. The traditional rectangular walnut or mahogany desk for the executive suite is still immensely popular and seems to be the preferred barrier between management and those on receiving side of orders.

Of particular note is that these desks for everyone from CEOs to the sole proprietor of a home business have all been altered in design of late to accommodate the age of information technology. No executive artifice is immune to pre drilled holes that allow desktop computers and other telemetry their preeminent place in the office. Add to the traditional design elements desks for executives made from glass, Lucite and even carbon fiber to fully incorporate newer than space age design ideas. As fancy elements have been removed from the executive suite and boardroom, prices for high end management required furniture have plummeted, making these huge size desks and credenzas far more affordable.

The hidden ergonomic improvements of modern office furniture

November 22nd, 2009

When the initial concept of ergonomic office furniture was developed in the late 1960s and early 70s it was met with immense skepticism as users were expected to load themselves onto this quirky looking chair design that require them to balance precariously without the assistance of a chair back and their legs tucked beneath them. As the seventies moved onward ergonomic office furniture continued to be scoffed that and was pushed to the back of sales and innovation efforts. Enter the nineties where baby boomers begin to feel a bit of age and searches for any type of a work environment aid that allows reduction of muscle and back fatigue are constant. Just as we required our automobile seats to have a Recaro design that allows for lumbar support, we now needed soft comfortable chairs that accommodated our lesser strength and greater girth.

Enter the new generation of office furniture. Although these chairs and desks show no markedly visible design changes, they are inherently equipped to support our older lower backs with cleverly designed lumbar and armrest elements. Even unsuspected items such as the common office desk have been recreated to allow for proper line of sight to computer monitors and exact distance to computer keyboards.

Searching for discounts in business furnishings

November 22nd, 2009

When shopping for office supplies, whether it is a box of paper clips or 100 desks and chairs for a new help center support unit, we are always looking for the lowest price. And if purchasing those paper clips for a corporate entity stretching around the world using billions of clips per month, a slight variance in price can equal humongous savings. In contrast, even when purchasing one suite of office furniture, if savings are of a sufficient percentage we are very likely to save a great deal of money. When purchasing office furniture, the best way to buy cheap so to speak is to purchase direct from the manufacturer’s agent online. One cannot truly expect to locate discount office furniture if that furniture has been transported across the nation from manufacturer to distributor and set into a glitzy showroom where a commissioned sales person awaits as a tiger set to pounce.

Discount office furniture purchased online will routinely save the buyer 30 to 40% against retail. Remember, as the end user consumer, you are always expected to pay the freight. All of that transport and warehousing is passed on to you along with a salesman’s salary. It should also be pointed out that purchasing office furniture on the Internet allows you a far greater selection as you may choose from not just the range of one store but the entire inventory available in an endless list of website based shops.

Designer flair added to the workplace

November 22nd, 2009

Just as we have seen the creation of designer clothing, eye glasses and home furniture, we are now seeing a proliferation of beautiful and functional designer office furniture. While in the past designer office furniture referred only to special limited edition products by fifties modern designers such as Charles Eames, today the term has come to refer to the office desks and chairs created by all of our favorite general design houses such as Chanel or Calvin Klein.

This is not to say that those famous designers are personally sketching the chair or desk that bears their name. Rather they are allowing their general styles to be incorporated into these pieces of furniture so that fans of their designs can share a bit of that in their office environment. Consider this to be more like hanging pictures of people you admire on your office walls. Also consider that products made and emblazoned with these designer labels are almost always built to a very high standard so that you are assured of buying a quality piece of office furniture.

Reinventing the contemporary office environment

November 22nd, 2009

There was a time when contemporary office furniture referred exclusively to works by such noted designers as Charles Eames or the Bauhaus school.  Today, while the Eames chairs still are a much sought after status symbol for the executive office contemporary office furniture has come to mean much more, as it defines specific functions in the workplace.  To begin with, you may notice that modern workstations are built using office desks with rounded corners.  We tend to travel more in the workplace.

Even though paper is becoming an unreality and files are sent across the room and around the world electronically, office workers tend to be far more mobile and move about so as to exchange ideas free from the alienation created by visiting the world through a computer monitor.  Office chairs have taken a turn towards modern as ergonomic design meshes perfectly with late 20th century and new millennium construction.  Of course modern design is only new for its fifteen minutes of fame. Beyond that, there rests function as contemporary office furniture changes primarily to meet the demands of the digital world.  One wonders what office desks and chairs will look like following the next advance in information technology.

Avoiding pain and fatigue caused by low quality chairs in your office

August 28th, 2009

If you have ever sat at the desk for stretches of several hours every day, either in your home office or business, then you probably know that there are quite a few aches and pains that develop merely from sitting in one spot for so long. These pains and unexplained fatigue are almost always caused by use of poor quality improper office chairs. A simple difference of armchair height relative to back position can create unbearable pain as upper arms and shoulders attempt to compensate for lack of lower back support. In reverse, severe lower back problems can develop as a result of insufficient and improper arm placement. Knees that are bent in contorted angles and calves that are stretched improperly at the very least result in poor concentration. You can eliminate the symptoms by acquiring a basic understanding of the elements office chairs are built with.

Ergonomic functionality in modern office chairs

August 28th, 2009

A great deal of discussion in the area of office chairs is centered on ergonomics. While most of us think of ergonomic office chairs as only being funny shape chairs without backs that place our feet behind us, ergonomics are actually a part of even the most conventional appearing office chairs. The primary design function of an ergonomic office chair is to support the lower back by lifting the upper body between the lower ribs and pelvis. The second most important design function of ergonomic office chairs is the support of the arms and shoulders. The perfect placement of these should place your keyboard at elbow height. Your feet should be allowed to rest flat with your calves a few inches below the chair seat.

Having established that back support is a prerequisite for construction of a quality office chair, let us take a fast examination of proper back support component design. The chair back simply must offer substantial lumbar support. The curved backrest must be matched to your spines natural contour. For this reason back rests should be adjustable in angle and lumbar pressure. The degree of decline in the chair back determines how much upper torso weight is transferred away from the lower back muscles. Although not standard and available on most office chairs an adjustment of the chair back height would also be preferable.

The importance of adjustability in office chair design

August 28th, 2009

The elbow rest provided by armrests absolutely must be adjustable. If not, the body uses the stress as levers to compensate for poor lower back support. This almost always results in incredible shoulder and arm pain. Generally speaking armrests should be set at a height equal to the desktop.

The seat of an office chair should be adjustable for many reasons. The first is that by varying seat height throughout the day, knees are not confined to a locked angle for such a long period of time. This is essential to proper leg circulation. The other more obvious reason that adjustable seat height is an important feature is that often chairs are used by many users of different heights and weights.

The cushion of your office chair seat needs to be firm enough to spread your body’s weight evenly. Seat cushions designed to lower down slightly in the front of the chair seat reduce leg fatigue by improving circulation.

The basic elements of any decent office chair

August 28th, 2009
A quality office chair should always have the following features:

  • Spring and hydraulic controls should be adjustable relative to the operator’s weight
  • Chairs should always have reclining and tilting backrests
  • The swivel function is essential to office chair comfort as it reduces the need to twist and turn when moving about the work station.
  • Another important consideration in office chair design is that most standard office chairs are our built to accommodate a person under 250 pounds as opposed to a heavy duty office chair. However there are heavy duty office chairs available for larger workers.
  • The final consideration for choosing office chairs are the materials used in its construction. These should be chosen based on your overall work environment with factors being climate and worker density.

Comparing office chair constuction material merits

August 28th, 2009

Currently mesh office chairs are very popular. A mesh seat and chair back allow cool air to reach the users back. A mesh office chair is perfect for those in humid and warmer climates.

Leather is a very popular material in construction of quality office chairs. Executive leather office chairs and leather recliners are almost a status requirement for higher level business executives.

Fabric seating remains extremely popular as it is cool and inexpensive. Fabric office chairs should always be checked for stain resistant treatments.
Chair legs should be of five wheel design. While casters do have trouble scooting about heavier carpet, most office chair casters in use today use a sufficiently wide wheel built to accommodate commercial carpeting. If chairs are not fitted with casters, they should always be at least fitted with glides so that they can easily slide backward and forward. Often these are fitted with seat sliders. These allow the entire platform of the lower seat to slide further back, changing the chairs point of balance.
